Abstract
Tämä opinnäytetyö tutkii elokuvaäänisuunnittelijan luovaa prosessia hyödyntäen Lauri Järvilehdon (2009) luovan työn mallia, peilaten sitä Edward de Bonon (1970) ja Graham Wallasin (2014) luovuusteorioihin. Tutkimuksen tavoitteena on ymmärtää, miten kaksi Aalto-yliopistossa elokuvaäänisuunnittelua opiskellutta henkilöä hahmottaa omaa luovaa prosessiaan ja miten heidän työskentelynsä suhteutuu Järvilehdon malliin.Tutkimukseen osallistui yksi opintojensa loppuvaiheessa oleva opiskelija,sekä taiteen maisteriksi vuonna 2024 valmistunut opiskelija.
Tutkimus on toteutettu laadullisena tutkimuksena, ja aineisto kerätty videohaastatteluilla joulukuussa 2024. Haastattelukysymykset perustuivat Järvilehdon malliin, ja niiden avulla selvitettiin äänisuunnittelijoiden työskentelyprosessia ja siihen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Tulosten perusteella kävi ilmi, että vaikka molempien haastateltavien työskentelyssä oli nähtävissä Järvilehdon mallin mukaisia vaiheita, heidän luovassa prosessissaan korostuivat eri painotukset – toinen nojasi spontaaniin assosiaatioon, kun taas toinen painotti emotionaalista resonanssia. Molemmat korostivat myös yhteisön merkitystä luovassa työssä.
Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli sekä syventää teoreettista ymmärrystä luovasta prosessista, että tarjota käytännön näkökulmia äänisuunnittelijoiden työskentelyyn. Tutkimusprosessin ja reflektiivisen tarkastelun kautta olen saavuttanut syvemmän ymmärryksen omasta luovasta prosessistani, sekä siitä, miten se suhteutuu äänisuunnittelun käytäntöihin.

This thesis explores the creative process of a film sound designer through the lens of Lauri Järvilehto’s (2009) model of creative work, reflecting it against the creativity theories of Edward de Bono (1970) and Graham Wallas (2014). The aim of the study is to understand how two individuals who have studied film sound design at Aalto University perceive their own creative process and how their ways of working relate to Järvilehto’s model. The participants included one student in the final stages of their studies and another who graduated with a Master of Arts degree in 2024.
The study was conducted as qualitative research, with material collected through video interviews in December 2024. The interview questions were based on Järvilehto’s model and were used to examine the participants’ working processes and the factors influencing them. The results revealed that while both interviewees exhibited stages aligned with Järvilehto’s model, their creative processes emphasized different aspects—one leaned on spontaneous association, while the other emphasized emotional resonance. Both also highlighted the importance of community in creative work.
The purpose of this thesis was to deepen theoretical understanding of the creative process while also providing practical insights into the work of sound designers. Through the research process and reflective analysis, I have gained a deeper understanding of my own creative process and how it relates to the practices of sound design.
