Abstract
As industries are becoming all the more competitive, companies are continuously searching for innovative ways to improve and boost their performance. With growing amounts of data available, companies are striving to discover how to use the knowledge effectively. Process mining is one way of using business data to help ameliorate process visibility and operational efficiency.
This thesis delves into the theoretical foundations of process mining to help better understand the arise and importance of the theory. Prior process management methodologies are discussed to provide context for the emerge of process mining and to help explain its relevance. A more diverse and complex model of process mining, object-centric process mining is also introduced.
The central focus of this thesis is to explore the theory of process mining in the organizational context. Process mining utilization in companies is researched through prior literature and it supports in the analysis of a real-life case. This thesis is a case study, examining the integration and impact of process mining on business operations in an organization. The data for this qualitative research is gathered through semi-structured interviews and it is analysed by loosely following the ideas of thematic analysis.
While maintaining a critical mindset this thesis strives to investigate both the present and the future of process mining within the organizational context. This thesis envisions the potential evolution of process mining, both within the case study company and globally, particularly focusing on the paradigm of object-centric process mining.
